Kid’s Power Wheels Derby!

Parents: This is important… For the Youth Derby, Age 12-15, and for drivers age 16 & 17, we must have a copy of the driver’s birth certificate and a signed parental waiver.

Regarding the Kid’s Power Wheels Derby, (Age 4-11). This event is the 1st heat of the Saturday night derby. A parental waiver must be signed.

JUST FOR CLARIFICATION, from our legal department, parental waiver, means that a parent or legal guardian MUST sign the waiver, not a friend, cousin, uncle, etc.

4 cylinder – Figure 8 Racing, Stock Derby, and Youth Derby

Drivers must be at least 16 years of age, 16 and 17 year olds need to have a signed consent waiver by parents or guardian to participate. Driver must furnish his/her own car. All drivers and pit crew must sign a liability waiver and purchase a pit pass before entering the pit area or track. All drivers must attend the driver’s meeting prior to race time. Any driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to compete. No alcohol or drugs permitted in pits.

Youth- 12-15 years old. Must have an Adult Passenger. See Entry form for proof of age requirement and waiver forum.

Cars Permitted: Any factory equipped 4 cylinder, 2 or 4 door, sedan or station wagon. No light commercial vehicles, SUVs,trucks or vans. AWD cars must remove one drive shaft.

STOCK MEANS STOCK! IF IT DOESN’T SAY IT IN THE RULES DON’T DO IT!  These vehicles are to be considered stock unless specifically mentioned in these rules. No altering, swapping, welding, or manipulating parts unless specifically mentioned.

Drivers must hit a live vehicle every 60 seconds.

Drivers are required to wear a DOT approved helmet and safety glasses/goggles or face shield. Drivers must also wear full length pants and footwear that completely covers feet. Safety is our first priority while on the grounds. There will be no tolerance of any unsafe acts. Conduct of a driver or crew member can disqualify the driver and car from the event. All decisions of the judges are final. Please call the head official Joey Young (570-441-3801) for any rule clarifications and questions.

Stripping: ALL unnecessary glass, plastic, chrome moldings, carpet, mirrors, emblems, and flammable materials must be removed. No broken windows in doors.

The car must be clean and free of loose debris in the driver’s compartment and the trunk. All airbags must be completely removed. Drain air conditioners and associated rubber hoses must be cut or removed prior to arrival at the track. All trailer/towing hitches must be removed.

Car appearance: Both front doors must be painted white.(on figure 8 cars and cars competing in figure 8 before derby) Cars must have a roof sign 12’’x 12’’ or larger also painted white.

Cages & Driver Protection: Factory dash must be in place. You must have seat bar from B post to B post unless passenger seat remains. No cage bars past the firewall or in trunk area.  Cages are intentioned for safety, do not reinforce the car. Halos will be allowed given the vertical bars do not extend more than 2” past horizontal roof bar.

Foam Padding is a required placed on the driver’s door, A post, and B post.

Figure 8 – Driver side door bar is mandatory; 4-inch-wide minimum ¼ inch extending 3-inch min past each seam of the driver’s door.  Must be at front bumper height. Bar must taper at 45 degrees to the body.

Youth- A floating 4 point cage minimum is mandatory. Figure 8 cars will be allowed if equipped with a cage.

Fuel Tanks & Batteries: ORIGINAL FUEL TANKS in stock location ONLY. Tank must be secured in two places using up to ⅜ chain or wire. Gas tank shields permitted as long as it does not reinforce the car.

Battery – ONE Battery only. May be moved inside to the passenger side floorboard. Battery Must be covered (No metal). We recommend metal frames bolted or welded to the floor or chains. Do not use zip screws or rubber straps.

Youth- Battery MUST be mounted behind the front seats or left under the hood. Steel box permitted.

Brakes & Steering: A working hydraulic brake system is required. You must exhibit the ability to stop. Anyone losing their brakes during an event will be disqualified. Steering must remain stock. Tie rod may be welded or reinforced.

Tires & Rims: Car tires only. Any 2-4 ply. Tubes permitted.  Officials must be able to read ALL digits and wording: make of tire, tire size and ply. DON’T Grind any wording off the tire!  Donuts may be used in rear. Air only.

Body & Frame: Stock- Do not touch body mounts or subframe mounts. No frame modifications.No stuffed frames of any kind. Do not “enhance” or crease body lines. Fender well sheet metal may be cut or rolled for clearance purposes but may not be bolted or welded back together.

Sunroof hole must be covered and secured with same thickness metal as the roof.

Any frame/unibody/rocker panel/body panel/bumper/etc. may be drilled to scope inside if deemed necessary for inspection.

Patching and rust repair to body and/or frame will be allowed only if cleared in advance by head official Joey Young (570-441-3801), & may require pictures before and after any repairs.

Hoods, Trunks & Doors: Hood must have at least an 8” x 8” hole near the center for fire personnel access. Hood and trunk lid/tailgate may be secured in a total of 4 places of your choice by chain (⅜” max.), #9 wire. NO COMBINATIONS. Hood and Trunk must be able to be opened for inspection. Factory Hood latch must be removed.

Doors may have a total of 8 places of your choice on each panel by welding metal plates (3”x3”x ¼” max.), chain (⅜” max.), #9 wire, OR banding. NO COMBINATIONS. ONLY THE DRIVER’S DOOR MAY BE FULLY SEAM WELDED for safety purposes (3”x ¼” straps max.). No inside seams may be welded.

Youth- Both Driver and Passenger door MAY BE FULLY SEAM WELDED for safety purposes (3”x ¼” straps max.). No inside seams may be welded.

Bumpers: 4 Cylinder car bumper ONLY. Bumper corners may be cut and bent to fit width of the car. NO sharp edges. Bumpers may be welded directly to the frame no extra metal allowed. Any 4 Cylinder Stock shock may be used in a stock manor. Shocks may be compressed and welded. Shock plate may be welded to frame and bumper. Welding allowed first 1 inch of frame only. Frame may be shortened to mount bumper but core support and mounts may not be modified.

Engines, Transmissions & Drive shafts: Engine & transmission must be STOCK. No relocation of shifting method.  Engine may be secured in any way that does not strengthen the car or any other component.

Electronics may be relocated.

Exhaust must exit under the car.(No stacks)

Water only in cooling system. Please drain antifreeze prior to arrival at the track. Electric fans only. No engine mounted fans permitted. All cooling fans must be under hood. No external radiator guards/protectors.

Some type of air cleaner must be used.

Suspension & Rears Must remain STOCK and move freely. Do not reinforce A-arms or trailing arms.

Strut bars may be used from strut tower to strut tower.

Differentials may be welded.
